Dr. Mai El Darawy, widely known as “Ms. Lavander” , is an Egyptian entrepreneur, academic advisor, and founder & CEO of Lavander Life Group—a leading business group operating across agriculture, industry, and export. As a single mother of two, she balances her personal and professional life with a passion for education, sustainability, and women & youth empowerment. Her vision transformed the lavender flower into a globally recognized Egyptian product of economic and aesthetic value. The group now includes several companies :
Though she originally studied pharmacy, her passion for business and finance led her down a different path. She began her professional journey as a university lecturer before moving to Saudi Arabia, where she gained extensive experience. Upon returning to Egypt, she founded a medical supplies company that played a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic — later establishing her own brand and vision.
The turning point came when she noticed the calming effect of lavander on her child. This inspired years of research and experimentation, lasting more than four years. She eventually launched Lavander Life Group, offering a wide range of products including leather goods, perfumes, oils, cosmetics, and accessories.
She successfully cultivated several varieties of lavander in Egypt — French, Spanish, and Italian — proving the capability of Egyptian soil to produce aromatic crops of global standards. The group follows an OEM manufacturing model, built on academic partnerships with scientific institutions like Egyptian universities, ensuring high-quality production and internationally approved export standards.
Since her early years as a student, Dr. Mai El-Darawy recognized the importance of practical training in developing the skills of pharmacy students. Together with a group of her colleagues, she established the first student entity dedicated to providing real training opportunities within factories and hospitals.
This initiative was the first seed of her professional journey in the field of training — a field she grew passionate about and chose to dedicate her career to, always emphasizing the value of hands-on application in the educational process.
Training Positions and Contributions:
Dr. El-Darawy became the first Egyptian woman to introduce lavander-based products to both European and Gulf markets. She established her company in the UK and proudly carried the “Made in Egypt” label as a core value of her brand, targeting local and international consumers with competitive quality and professional packaging.
Believing in the power of women’s empowerment and youth support, she launched initiatives to train and mentor university students in the fields of fashion and design. Her efforts have opened up real market opportunities for them in both the Egyptian and international arenas.
Dr. Mai El-Darawy holds memberships in several prominent institutions:
Member of the Leather Industry Chamber at the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
Member of the Export Council for Leather and Footwear.
Member of Business Women of Egypt 21 Association.
Advisor to the President of Sinai University.

Dr. Mai El Darawy is considered one of the pioneers in implementing medical (clinical) simulation techniques in Egypt. She currently serves as the Executive Director of a Simulation Center at a prominent Egyptian university.
She firmly believes in the importance of simulation-based education to enhance healthcare quality and patient safety, and works toward fully integrating these tools into both the healthcare system and medical education.
Key Areas of Her Contributions in This Field:
Educational Leadership:
Utilizes simulation to train healthcare professionals in communication, decision-making, and crisis management skills—before encountering real-life clinical scenarios.
Quality & Standards:
Advocates for strict standards in training ethics and safety, while emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and safe simulation environments.
Institutional Collaboration:
Promotes partnerships between universities, hospitals, and governmental entities to mainstream simulation methodology and reduce medical errors.
Technology Integration:
Supports the adoption of advanced simulation technologies, such as computer-enhanced mannequins and virtual reality (VR) systems.
Dr. Mai El Darawy’s journey in the world of business began in childhood, when she used to write stories, illustrate them, and sell them to magazines.
Her knowledge of the business world deepened during her university years at Sinai University. Studying in Arish provided her with the time and environment to pursue self-learning in business and commerce alongside her pharmacy education.
In 2013, she launched her first company specializing in medical supplies and prosthetic devices, marking her professional entry into the business world.
The major expansion came in 2022 when she founded Lavander Life Exporting, a group of companies specializing in the design and production of leather goods (bags, belts, shoes), as well as cotton and linen clothing—offering a range of brands that combine luxury, heritage, and sustainability.
She also supported her children in launching innovative projects using lavender in industry, such as:
Eco Lava: A project that transforms car exhaust into oxygen using lavender — awarded a prize in a nationwide school competition.
Y2 Lavander: A brand for healthy meals enriched with lavender.
These projects received sponsorship and support from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) – affiliated with the Egyptian Cabinet
